Structural geology

The uncertainty in the modeling of the structural geology has a large impact both in reservoir volumes and flow through the reservoir. However due to limited support for handling this uncertainty in standard software, this uncertainty is often ignored. We at NR have worked with stochastic modeling of structural geology since the 1980's.

The methodologies developed at NR are mainly available through the Havana and Cohiba software suites. We also assist customers with running studies of the structural uncertainty.

HAVANA - The Fault Modeling Tool
Havana is a tool for stochastic modeling of faults. It can both be used to simulate sub-seismic faults, and for uncertainty modeling of seismic scale faults.
COHIBA 7.0 - Surface Modelling and Depth Conversion
COHIBA is a fast and accurate tool for generating surfaces. COHIBA combines well picks, well paths, seismic travel time maps, velocity models, and isochore maps into a consistent set of surfaces.
Fault Seal modeling
We have developed a novel algorithm for modeling fault seal within the structural model. This algorithm is available in the newest version of RMS and support fault seal calculations for stair-stepped grids.
FaultFacies
Traditionally faults are modeled as 2D surfaces. In the FaultFacies project we have developed a new concept for 3D modeling of the fault zone.
Impact of Realistic Geologic Models on Simulation of CO₂storage (IGEMS)
In this project we have studied how different cap-rock shapes influence the CO2 storage capacity. Different cap-rock geometries where generated using geostatistical techniques. The storage capacity was evaluated using simple spill-point algorithms and dynamic flow simulations.
