The overall objective for Polar Ice is to develop an integrated framework for sea ice information services, covering the entire information chain from downloading the satellite data to visualization of the sea ice products on the screen of the user. In addition to integrating existing sea ice products, the project also aims to identify gaps in current technology and develop the services accordingly.

 

NR's focus in this project is to develop an operational service for thickness of thin sea ice for integration into the Polar Ice framework. This product is based on thermal data from Suomi-NPP VIIRS.
