News

  • Frigessi was interviewed by BBC radio, and a ten minutes conversation between the journalist Chris Smith and him was broadcasted December 11, 2011. This was part of the popular weekly programme The Naked Scientist. Smith was in Oslo two weeks ago, and made several interviews at UiO. A pod-cast can be heard here (Frigessi starts at 42.40 min). In the interview, Frigessi explains how statistics is changing in the last decade under the data revolution and because of the need to answer more and more complex questions, "second order effects". Frigessi draws a line between statistical research in genomics, clinical studies and finance, to explain how we are moving from the classical setting of testing given hypothesis to a high dimensional hypothesis generating exercise. This gives to statisticians a new exciting role in science.
